Section 156. Disobedience of wife.

Any woman who shall wilfully disobey any order lawfully given by her husband in accordance with Muslim law shall be punishable with a fine not exceeding ten dollars, or, in the case of a second or subsequent offence, with simple imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven days or with fine not exceeding fifty dollars :

Provided that it shall be a sufficient defence to any prosecution under this section that the husband has been guilty on more than one occasion during the preceding year of abusing or ill-treating the accused.
