PART III - THE MAJLIS CONSTITUTION

Section 10. The Constitution.

(1) The Majlis shall consist of a President and not less than seven other Members all of whom shall be appointed by His Highness the Sultan by Instrument under His Sign Manual and the State Seal for a period not exceeding two years.

(2) No person shall be appointed a Member of the Majlis unless he be a male over the age of 21 years progressing the Religion of Islam and able to read and write Malay.

(3) Pending any appointment under this section the persons heretofore constituting the Majlis Ugama Islam dan Isti’adat Melayu shall be deemed to have been appointed to hold corresponding office under this Enactment.

Mufti ex-officio Member.

(4) The Mufti shall be an ex-officio Member of the Majlis and shall not be subject to sections 12 and 13 of this Enactment.
