PART IX - OFFENCES



Section 156. Religious books.

(1) Whoever, save in his own residence and in the presence only of members of his own household, teaches or professes to teach any doctrine of the Muslim Religion without the written permission in that behalf of the Majlis shall be guilty of an offence punishable with imprisonment for a term not exceeding one month or with fine not exceeding one hundred dollars.

(2) Any person, whether or not he professes the Muslim religion, who propagates any religious doctrine or belief other than the religious doctrine or belief of the Muslim Religion among persons professing the Muslim Religion shall be guilty of an offence cognizable by a Civil Court and punishable with imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or a fine not exceeding three thousand dollars.
