ENACTMENT NO. 7 OF 1989 ADMINISTRATION OF THE RELIGION OF ISLAM AND THE MALAY CUSTOM
OF PAHANG (AMENDMENT) (NO. 2) ENACTMENT 1989
Section 8. Amendment of section 236
The principal Enactment is amended by substituting for section 236 the following -
"(1) Any Muslim legal officer of the Federal Government may appear and represent any party in any Court or the Court of Appeal.
(2) Other than the legal officers mentioned in subsection (1), any Muslim advocate and solicitor who possesses a valid practising certificate issued under the Legal Profession Act 1976 and any other person professing the Religion of Islam who is considered qualified by the Majlis may also appear and represent any party in any Court or the Court of Appeal.
(3) Save for the legal officers mentioned in subsection (1), every person mentioned in subsection (2) shall possess a certificate called the "Sijil Peguam Syariah" issued by the Majlis and signed by the Yang di-Pertua on payment of the prescribed fee.
(4) The Majiis shall maintain a register to be called "Daftar Peguam Syariah" containing the names and particulars of those who have been admitted as Peguam Syariah
and who have been issued the Sijil Peguam Syariah.
(5) The Sijil Peguam Syariah issued under subsection (3) shall remain valid for one year from the date of its issue:
Provided that the Majlis may at any time revoke it.".
