Section 66. Peguam Syarie.

(1) The Majlis may appoint any Muslim Federal Government legal officer and any Muslim advocates and solicitors holding a valid certificate issued under the Legal Profession Act 1976 [Act 166], or any qualified person to be Peguam Syarie to appear and represent any party in any Syariah Court.

(2) The qualifications to practice as Peguam Syarie shall be determined by rules made by the Majlis.

(3) Such rules may provide that every person appointed to be a Peguam Syarie shall hold a certificate issued by the Majlis and signed by the Yang Dipertua on payment of the prescribed fee. Such certificate shall be called Sijil Peguam Syarie.

(4) The Majlis may any time revoke a Sijil Peguam Syarie issued under subsection (3).

(5) The Majlis may exempt any Federal Government legal officer from holding the Sijil Peguam Syarie to appear and represent any party in any Syariah Court.
