Section 55. Procedure where offence suspected.

(1) If from information received or otherwise a Religious Enforcement Officer has reason to suspect the comission of an offence he shall, unless the offence be of a character which the Chief Syariah Prosecutor has directed need not be reported to him forthwith send a report of the same to the Chief Syariah Prosecutor, and shall investigate and, if the circumstances of the case require, proceed in person or depute a Religious Enforcement Officer to investigate or proceed to the place where the alleged offence took place to inquire into the facts and circumstances of the case to take such measures as may be necessary for the discovery of the offender.

(2) If it appears to the Religious Enforcement Officer receiving the information that there is no sufficient ground for proceeding the matter, he shall not do so.

(3) In the case mentioned in subsection (2), the Religious Enforcement Officer receiving the information shall state in his report his reason for not proceeding.
