PART VI - CONVERSION TO ISLAM



Section 74. Registration of muallafs.

(1) A person who has converted to Islam may apply to the Registrar in the prescribed form for registration as a muallaf.

(2) If the Registrar is satisfied that the requirements of section 69 have been fulfilled in respect of the person, the Registrar may register his convesion to Islam by entering in the Register of Muallafs the name of the person and other particulars as may be required.

(3) The Registrar shall also determine the date of conversion to Islam and enter the date in the Register of Muallafs.

(4) In order to satisfy himself of the fact and date of conversion to Islam, and the other particulars to be entered in the Register of Muallafs, the Registrar may make such inquiries and call for such evidence as he considers necessary, but this subsection shall not be construed as precluding the Registrar from relying solely on the word of the applicant for conversion to Islam as far as the fact and date of conversion to Islam are concerned.

(5) If the Registrar is not satisfied that the requirements of section 69 have been fulfilled in respect of the applicant for conversion to Islam, he may permit the applicant to utter, in his presence or in the presence of any of his officers, the two clauses of the Affirmation of Faith in accordance with the requirements of that section.
