PART II - CONSTITUTION OF MAJLIS Mufti and Syariah Committee
Section 37. The Syariah Committee.
(1) There shall be a Syariah Committee of the Majlis and its members shall consist of the following-
(a) Mufti as Chairman;
(b) not more than four Ulamas who are members of the Majlis;
(c) not more than four Ulamas who are qualified for the purpose of issuing fatwa but are not members of the Majlis.
(2) All members of the Syariah Committee shall be appointed by the Majlis for such period as the Majlis may deem fit. Such appointment shall be published in the Gazette.
(3) If the mufti is absent from any meeting of the committee, the members from the Majlis who are present may elect any of them to be the Chairman for that meeting.
(4) The Chairman and two other members of the Committee shall form a quorum in order to conduct a meeting.
(5) Subject to any writtep law, the Syariah Committee shall have power to regulate its own procedure.
