ENACTMENT NO. 12 OF 1985
ADMINISTRATION OF ISLAMIC FAMILY LAW ENACTMENT 1985
PART I - PRELIMINARY
Section 5. Subsisting valid marriages deemed to be registered under this Enactment and dissolution only under this Enactment.
(1) Nothing in this Enactment shall affect the validity of any Muslim marriage solemnized under any law whoresoever prior to the appointed date.
(2) Such marriage, if valid under the law under which it was solemnized, shall be deemed to be registered under this Enactment.
(3) Every such marriage, unless void under the law under which it was solemnized, shall continue until dissolved-
(a) by the death of one of the parties;
(b) by such talaq as may be pronounced under this Enactment;
(c) by order of a Court of competent jurisdiction; or
(d) by a declaration of nullity made by a Court of competent jurisdiction.
