PART VI - MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE



Section 135. Rectification of registers.

(1) If it shall appear that any entry in any register has been made, or any certificate issued, under this Part in error, and that such error ought to be rectified, a Registrar or any person affected by, but not responsible for, such error may apply to the Majlis for rectification of such register or certificate.

(2) The Majlis may, after such enquiry as seems proper, order rectification accordingly:

Provided that no such order shall be made more than five years after the entry was made, or certificate issued, as the case may be.

(3) Any person may be ordered to surrender any document to the Registrar for cancellation or rectification in consequence of any such order.

(4) No order under sub-section (2) of this section shall be made to the prejudice of any person unless he has had an opportunity of being heard, either personally or by advocate and solicitor, by the Majlis.

(5) The power of rectification conferred by this section shall extend to the case of entries made or certificates issued before the coming into force of this Enactment.
