PART III - JURISDICTION OF SYARIAH COURT
Section 19. Powers of the Pegawai Penguatkuasa Syariah.
(1) The Pegawai Peguatkuasa Syariah shall -
(a) received information of the commission of an offence and make any necessary investigation;
(b) if so authorised by any State Islamic Law examine or arrest any person commiting any offence or suspected of committing any offence under such law;
(c) require the attendance of and question a witness connected withthe investigation;
(d) require a bond for the appearance of any arrested person; and
(e) carry out the powers and duties which are conferred by any State Islamic law.
(2) In matters of arrest, investigation and inquiry not spefically provided for in this Enactment or any State Islamic Law, the powers and regulation for the exercise of powers by the Pegawai Peguatkuasa Syariah shall be in conformity with the law and regulations applicable to a police officer not below the rank of an Inspector under the Criminal Procedure Code for the time being in force.
