Section 5. Syurb.

Allah SWT said

Means:

"O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination – Of Satan's handiwork; eschew such (abomination), that you may prosper".

(The Holy Quran, Al-Maidah, 5:90)

(1) Syurb is an offence of consuming liquor or of any drink of intoxicating nature whether intoxicated or not, and irrespective of the quantity consumed.

(2)Whoever commits Syurb shall be punished as follows:

(a)

for the first or second offence with whipping of not less than forty lashes;

(b)

for the third offence with whipping of not less than forty strokes lashes and not exceeding eighty lashes; and

(c)

for the fourth and subsequent offence with whipping of not less than forty lashes and not exceeding eighty lashes and also be liable to imprisonment for a term as in the opinion of the Court thinks fit.
