PART III - THE FATWA COMMITTEE
Section 24. Fatwa related to national interest
(1) Notwithstanding any power of the Fatwa Committee under Section 19, whenever the Fatwa Committee stated that a proposed fatwa to be made related to matters affecting the national interest, the Fatwa Committee shall postpone its discussion about the proposed fatwa, and the Mufti shall inform the matter to His Royal Highness the Sultan.
(2) Notwithstanding any provision of subsection (1), a fatwa is considered related to the matters affecting with national interest if the issue has relationship with any matter, policy, program and activity which directly affect the interest of Federal Government, State Government, or any of its departments or agencies.
(3) If His Royal Highness the Sultan gives his consent under subsection (1), the Mufti shall, before the fatwa being referred to the Fatwa Committee, inform the State Government of Kedah Darul Aman about the reference.
(4) A fatwa published in the Gazette shall cite that the fatwa is made under this section.
