ADMINISTRATION OF ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS (TERENGGANU) ENACTMENT 1422H/2001M

PART II - MAJLIS AGAMA ISLAM DAN ADAT MELAYU AND APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS

Section 8. Membership of the Majlis.

(1) The Majlis shall consist of the following members:

(a)

Menteri Besar as the President;

(b) A member of the State Executive Council as the Deputy President;

(c) Five ex-officio members who shall be the persons for the time being holding the following appointments:

(i) the State Secretary;

(ii) the Mufti;

(iii) the State Legal Adviser;

(iv) the State Financial Officer;

(v) the Commissioner; and

(d)

not more than ten other members, at least five of whom shall be

alim ulamak.

(2) Deputy President and the members appointed under paragraph (1) (b) and (1) (d) shall be appointed by the Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan on the advice of the Menteri Besar for such period, not exceeding two years, as the Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan may determine.

(3) A member appointed under paragraph (1) (b) and (1) (d) whose term of office has expired may be reappointed.

(4) If at any time the person holding the appointment mentioned in subparagraph (1) (c),(iii) or (iv) is not a Muslim, the Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan shall appoint another officer who is a Muslim and next in seniority from the same Department or Division to be a member in place of that person.

(5) Every person who, immediately before the commencement of this section, was the appointed member of the previous Majlis shall, subject to this Enactment, each continue to be the member of the Majlis until the expiry of his term of appointment.
