Section 131. Appoinment of Pegawai masjid.

(1) It shall be teh duty of the Yang di-Pertua upon learning of any vacancy or impending vacancy in the post of pegawai masjid for mosques whose officials are not appointed under section 40 to look for candidates to fill in such posts and after due examination of their qualifications to select two or more of them for election.

(2) An election shall be held in the mukim masjid where all Muslim who are baligh are ordinarily resident and shall be entitled to be registered as voters.

(3) The masjid, on being satisfied that any candidate has been duly elected in the manner aforesaid, shall submi his name to His Royal Highness the Sultan with a recommendation that he can be appointed to fill the vacancy in question.

(4) Every person appointed under this section shall receive a Tauliah from His Royal Highness the Sultan.
