PART IX - OFFENCES
Section 143. Attendance at mosque.
Any male who has attained the age of fifteen according to the Gregorian calendar who fails to attend Friday prayers at a mosque of a kariah in which he ordinarily resides shall, subject as hereinafter provided, be guilty of an offence punishable with a fine not exceeding twenty-five dollars or for a term of imprisonment not exceeding one week:
Provided that no offence shall be committed by any such person if-
(a) his attendance is prevented by rain;
(b) his place of residence is more than three miles by the nearest route from a mosque;
(c) less than forty male Muslims aged fifteen years or over, or such lesser number as His Highness may prescribe as the number in whose presence Friday prayers may be performed, reside in the kariah in which he then is; or
(d) he is sick, absent from his ordinary place of residence or prevented from attending by other grounds lawful according to Muslim Law.
