Section 13. Membership.

(1) The Members of the Majlis shall be a President and not less than six other Members, all of whom shall be appointed by the Ruler in Council for such period as he may deem fit.

(2) Subject as in this Enactment otherwise provided, unless the contrary appears in the instrument of appointment, every such appointment shall be deemed to havebeen made for a period of three years from the datethereof, and each Member shall be eligible for reappointment.

(3) No person shall be appointed a Member of the Majlis unless he or she is not less than 21 years of age and professes the Religion of Islam.

(4) No Member of the Majlis who is not a Malay shall take part in any discussion relating to matters of purely Malay Custom.

(5) Pending any appointment under this section the persons constituting the former Majlis Ugama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu shall be deemed to have been appointed and to hold corresponding office under this Enactment.
