CONTROL OF ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS (MALACCA) ENACTMENT 2002

PART I - PRELIMINARY

Section 2. Interpretation.

In this Enactment, unless the context otherwise requires-

“prescribed” means prescribed by regulations made under this Enactment;

“this Enactment” includes any regulations made under this Enactment;

“Department” means the Islamic Religious Department of Malacca;

“Board” means the Board of Management of Islamic Religious School established under section 12;

“State Government” means the State Government of Malacca;

“curriculum” means such curriculum as may be prescribed;

“Advisory Board” means the body established by the Conference of Rulers which is known by the name of
“Lembaga Penasihat Penyelarasan Pelajaran dan Pendidikan Agama Islam”;

“Majlis” means the Majlis Agama Islam Melaka established under section 4 of the Administration of Islamic
Law (State of Malacca) Enactment 1991 [Enactment No. 5 Of 1991];

“Inspector of Schools” means the Inspector of Islamic Religious Schools appointed under section 19;

“authorised person” means any person authorised in writing under section 20 to exercise the powers and to perform the functions and duties of an Inspector of Schools;

“Registrar” means the Registrar appointed under section 3;

“Director” means the Director of the Islamic Religious Department of Malacca;

“Assistant Registrar” means an Assistant Registrar appointed under section 3;

“State Authority” means the Executive Council of the State of Malacca;

“religious school” means any Islamic religious school in the State of Malacca and includes mosque, madrasah, surau, Islamic centre, balai Islam, pondok and Islamic kindergarten where ten or more persons are registered to study or to be taught any subject including subject relating to the religion of Islam, but not including any Islamic religious school established by or under the full control of the Ministry of Education;

“instrument of management” means an instrument of management of an Islamic religious school as specified in section 12;

“Deputy Registrar” means a Deputy Registrar appointed under section 3.
