Jamaah Ulama'

Section 37. Authorities to be followed.

(1) In issuing a fatwa under section 36 the Majlis or the Jamaah Ulama' shall ordinarily follow the orthodox tenets of the Shafie School.

(2) If the Majlis or the Jamaah Ulama' considers the following of the orthodox tenets of the Shafie School may lead to a situation which is opposed to the public interest, the Majlis or the Jamaah Ulama' may with the consent of His Royal Highness the Sultan follow the views of any other accepted school, except in any matter connected with akidah, when the views of the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah must be followed.
