PART II - SYARIAH COURTS Constitution And Jurisdiction
Section 11. Jurisdiction of Syariah Lower Court.
(1) The Syariah Lower Court shall be presided by a Judge of the Syariah Lower Court.
(2) The Syariah Lower Court shall-
(a) in its criminal jurisdiction, try any offence committed by a Muslim under this Enactment or any other written law which prescribes offences where the maximum punishment provided for by this Enactment or other written law does not exceed three thousand ringgit or imprisonment for a period not exceeding two yeras or both, and may impose any punishment provided therefor;
(b) in its civil jurisdiction, hear and determine all actions and proceedings which the Syariah High Court is empowered to hera and determine, where the amount or value of the subject-matter in dispute does not exceed three hundred thousand ringgit or is not capable of estimation in terms of money.
(3) The Yang di-Pertua Negeri may, on the recommmendation of the Chief Syarie Judge, from time to time, by notification in the Gazette increase the civil jurisdiction of the Syariah Lower Court.
