ENACTMENT NO. 7 OF 1993 ADMINISTRATION OF ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS ENACTMENT OF THE STATE OF PENANG 1993
PART II - THE MAJLIS AGAMA ISLAM NEGERI PULAU PINANG
Section 6. Membership of Majlis
(1) The Majlis shall consist of the following members-
(a) Yang di - Pertua;
(b) Timbalan Yang di - Pertua;
(c) not more than two muslim members of the State Executive Council appointed by the Yang di - Pertuan Agong on the recommendation of the Yang di - Pertua Negeri;
(d) not more than twelve other members;
(e) five ex-officio members who shall be the persons for the time being holding the appointments as follows -
(i) State Secretary;
(ii) State Legal Adviser;
(iii) State Financial Officer;
(iv) Mufti; and
(v) Chief Syariah Judge.
(2) The Yang di - Pertua, Timbalan Yang di - Pertua and the members appointed under paragraph (d)of subsection (1) shall be personswho are Muslims and shall be appointed by the Yang di - Pertuan Agong on the advice of the State Executive Council, for such term not exceeding three years, as the Yang di - Pertuan Agong may determine.
(3) If at any time the person holding any of the appointments mentioned in subparagraph (i), (ii) and (iii) of paragraph (e)is not Muslim, the Yang di - Pertuan Agong on the advice of the State Executive Council shall appoint another officer to be a member in place of that person.
(4) A member whose term of office has expired may be reappointed.
(5) No person shall be appointed a member of the Majlis unless he is over the age of twenty-one years, professing the religion of Islam.
(6) The persons who, immediately before the coming into force of this section, were the Yang di - Pertua, Timbalan Yang di - Pertua, and members appointed by the Yang di - Pertuan Agong shall, subject to this Enactment, continue to be the Yang di - Pertua, Timbalan Yang di - Pertua, and members of the Majlis respectively until the expiry of their current period of appointment.
