ENACTMENT NO. 7 OF 2002 ADMINISTRATION OF THE RELIGION OF ISLAM (STATE OF MALACCA) ENACTMENT 2002
PART II - MAJLIS AGAMA ISLAM MELAKA
Section 10. Membership of the Majlis.
(1) The Majlis shall consist of the following members:
(a) a Chairman;
(b) a Deputy Chairman;
(c) five ex-officio members who shall be the persons for the time being holding the following appointments:
(i) the State Secretary;
(ii) the State Legal Adviser;
(iii) the State Financial Officer;
(iv) the Mufti;
(v) the Chief Police Officer; and
(d) not more than eight other members, at least five of whom shall be persons who are learned in Hukum Syarak.
(2) The Chairman, Deputy Chairman and the members appointed under paragraph (1)(d) shall be appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the State Authority for such period, not exceeding three years, as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong may determine.
(3) A member whose term of office has expired may be reappointed.
(4) If at any time the person holding the appointment mentioned in subparagraph (1)(c)(i), (ii), (iii) or (v) is not a Muslim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall appoint another officer who is a Muslim and next in seniority from the same Department or Division to be a member in place of that person.
(5) Every person who, immediately before the commencement of this section, was the Chairman, Deputy Chairman or appointed member of the previous Majlis shall, subject to this Enactment, each continue to be the Chairman, Deputy Chairman or member of the Majlis until the expiry of his term of appointment.
