PART III - REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE
Section 20. Appointment of Chief Registrar and Assistant Registrar of Marriage, Divorce and Revocation.
(1) His Highness may appoint any public officer who is qualified to be the Chief Registrar of Marriage Divorce and Revocation for the purpose of this Enactment who shall have jurisdiction to supervise and control the Registrars and the registration of marriage, divorce and revocation under this Enactment.
(2) His Highness the Sultan may appoint by name or designation any person who is qualified whether a public officer or otherwise to be Registrar or Assistant Registrar of Marriage, Divorce and Revocation for any kariah masjid in this State as specified in the appointment.
(3) The Kadi Besar, Deputy Kadi Besar and Kadi shall be ex-officio Registrars of Marriage, Divorce and Revocation in the district in which he has criminal and civil jurisdiction.
(4) His Highness the Sultan may by notification in the Gazette appoint any member of the Malaysian Embassies in any country by name or designation to be Registrar of Marriage, Divorce and Revocation for the purpose of this Enactment in the aforesaid country.
(5) The Chief Registrar, Registrar and Assistant Registrar shall be deemed public servants for the purpose of the Penal Code.
