PART IV - PENALTY AND MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS RELATING TO SOLEMNIZATION AND REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE



Section 34. Rectification.

(1) If the Registrar is satisfied on affidavit or upon any other ground that an endorsement relating to a marriage is wrong in form or substance, he may, in the presence of the parties to the marriage or if they are absent, in the presence of two trustworthy witnesses, rectify the mistake by deleting the wrong endorsement in the certificate and entering the correct endorsement therein in its place and he shall thereafter direct that the endorsement in the District Register be rectified accordingly.

(2) The Registrar shall affix his signature and the date of rectification in the certificate and in the District Register.

(3) A certified copy of the rectification shall be sent forthwith to the Chief Registrar to enable a similar rectification be made in the Central Register.
