Section 74. Duty to maintain child accepted as member of family.

(1) Where a man has accepted a child who is not his child as a member of his family, it shall be his duty to maintain the child while he or she remains a child, so far as the parents of the child fail to do so, and the Court may make such orders as may be necessary to ensure the welfare of the child.

(2) The duty imposed by ubsection (1) shall cease if the child is taken away by either of his or her parents.

(3) Any sum expended by a man in maintaining a child as required by subsection (1) shall be recover-able as a deb from the father or mother of the child.
