PART V - PROSECUTION AND REPRESENTATION

Section 59. Peguam Syarie.

(1) Any Legal Officer of the Government, any lawyer issued with a practising certificate under the Legal Profession Act 1976 and any qualified person may be admitted in writing by the Majlis to be a Peguam Syarie who may attend and represent any party in any Syariah Court.

(2) Notwithstanding anything contained in any other written law, no person other than a Peguam Syarie may represent any party to any proceeding in any Syariah Court.

(3) The Majlis may, with the approval of Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan, make rules -

(a) to provide for the procedure, qualifications and fees for the admission of Peguam Syarie; and

(b) to regulate, control and supervise the conduct of Peguam Syarie.
