PART III- SYAR'IAH COURTS Criminal Appeal Procedure
Section 44. Decision on appeal.
At the hearing of an appeal the Syar'iah High Court may, if it considers there are no sufficient grounds for interfering with the decision, sentence, or order of the Court appealed against, dismiss the appeal or may-
(a) in an appeal against an order of acquittal, reverse the order and direct that further inquiry be made or that the accused be retried, or find him guilty and pass sentence on him according to law;
(b) in an appeal against conviction or in an appeal against sentence-
(i) reverse the judgment and acquit or discharge the accused, or order him to be retried; or
(ii) alter the decision, confirm the sentence or, with or without altering the decision, reduce or enhance the sentence or alter the nature of the sentence;
(c) in an appeal against any other order, alter or reverse the order.
