Section 26. Authorities to be followed.

(1) In making and issuin any fatwa or ruling on any matter relating to Hukum Syara' in accordance with section 25, the Fatwa Committee shall be guided by the Mazhab Shafi'i, excep that in the interests and for the welfare of the Muslim community, it may issue the fatwa or ruling on the guidance of any of the four Mazhabs or any other Mazhab considered suitable by the Fatwa Committee.

(2) In making and issuing any ruling on any matter relating to Malay custom in accordance with section 25, the Majlis shall have due regard to the Malay custom practised in the State, and, if he matter in any manner involves Hukum Syara', shall refer the matter to the Fatwa Committee for advice.

(3) Any fatwa or ruling shall be published in the Gazette if His Royal Highness or the Commissioner so determines and shall thereupon be binding on all Muslims resident in the State.
