PART III- SYAR'IAH COURTS
General Provisions
Section 66. Peguam Syar'i.
(1) The word "advocate", wherever used in this Enactment, refers only to a Peguam Syar'i, that is to sat, an advocate and solicitor who-
(a) professes the Religion of Islam and is qualified and competent in matters pertaining to Hukum Syara';
(b) is able to speak and understand Bahasa Malaysia; and
(c) is certified by a panel appointed by the Majlis, whether after passing any test set by the panel or without being required to undergo any test, as a person competent to be a Peguam Syar'i.
(2) Subject to subsection (4), no person other than a Peguam Syar'i may appear and represent any party in any proceedings in any Syar'iah Court.
(3) The Majlis shall prepare and maintain an annual register containing particulars relating to Peguam Syar'i.
(4) A Peguam Syar'i shall not appear and represent any party in any proceedings in any Syar'iah Court unless he has a written certificate issued by the MajIis, which certificate shall be issued annually and signed by the President.
