Section 54. Duration of order of maintenance.

Unless the order of maintenance expressly states the limited duration or unless an order is cancelled and subject to the provisions of section 55 an order of maintenance shall abate-

(a) if the maintenance is unsecured, on the death of the person so ordered to pay the maintenance or on the death of the person entitled to receive the maintenance pursuant to an order whichever is the earlier; or

(b) if the maintenance is secured, on the death of person entitled to receive the maintenance pursuant to an order.
