MAHKAMAH SYARIAH ENACTMENT 1979

PART I - PRELIMINARY

Section 2. Interpretation.

(1) In this Enactment, unless the context otherwise require:

"Advocate" means any person or an advocate and solicitor admitted under section 8.

"Civil Court" means any Court other than a Court constituted by this Enactment;

"Court" means the Court of Kadi or Court of Appeal as the case may be;

"Deputy Kadi Besar" means the Deputy Kadi Besar appointed under section 11;

"Kadi" means a Kadi appointed under section 18;

"Kadi Besar" means the Kadi Besar, Kedah appointed under section 11;

"Majlis" means the Majlis Ugama Islam, Kedah constituted under the Administration of Islamic Religion Enactment 1979;

"Seal" means a seal as provided for in section 4;

"State" means the State of Kedah;

"State Islamic Laws" means the Islamic Laws as listed in the First Schedule;

(2) Words and expressions importing the masculine gender include females;

(3) Words and expressions in the singular include the plural and words and expressions in the plural include the singular.
