PART II - MAJLIS AGAMA ISLAM DAN ADAT MELAYU PERAK

Section 10. Membership of the Majlis.

(1) The Majlis shall consist of the following members -

(a) A Prsident appointed by Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan after consultation with the Menteri Besar;

(b) Ex-officio member made up as follows -

(i) State Secretary;

(ii) State Legal Adviser;

(iii) State Financial Officer;

(iv) State Chief Police Officer;

(v) Mufti; and

(vi) Chief Registrar of the Syariah Appeal Court;

(d) 5 persons learned in Hukum Syara' and residing in the State of Perak Darul Ridzuan;

(e) Orang Kaya Temenggong;

(f) One Orang Besar Negeri;

(g) 2 persons who specialise in economics or finance;

(h) 2 academicians; and

(i) One member from a welfare organisation.

(2) Only Muslims are fit to be or be appointed member of the Majlis. If any post referred to in paragraph (b) of subsection (1) is held by a non-Muslim, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan shall, after consultation with the Menteri Besar, appoint a Muslim from the same Department to be a member of the Majlis in his place.

(3) Members appointed under paragraphs (a) and (f) and named in paragraphs (c) (d) (g) (h) and (i) of subsection (1) shall be appointed by Duli Yang Maha Mulis Sultan for a term not exceeding three years.

(4) A member whose term of appointment has expired may be reappointed.

(5) A person who immediately before the commencement of this Section is the President or member of the Majlis appointed under the 1965 Enactment shall, subject to this Enactment, continue to be the President or member of the Majlis until the expiry of the term of his appointment or until an appointment under this Enactment is made, whichever is the earlier.

(6) Members of the Majlis may be given any allowance and ficilities as may be determined by the State Authority from time to time.
