PART V - MOSQUES
Section 63. Appointment of Pegawai Masjid
(1) For every mosque in the State of Kedah Darul Aman the Majlis, with the consent of His Royal Highness the Sultan, appoint one or several Pegawai Masjid.
(2) For every mosque that is determined by His Royal Highness the Sultan after consulting the Majlis, the Pegawai Masjid shall be appointed from amongst members of the State public service.
(3) For every mosque that is not determined under subsection (2) the Majlis shall appoint the Pegawai Masjid from amongst the ahli kariah of the mosque.
(4) Upon the commencement of this section, every person who, immediately before the commencement of this section, was the Imam, Bilal or Siak of mosques appointed under the previous Enactment shall be deemed to have been duly appointed under this section to be the Imam, Bilal or Siak respectively of the mosques and shall, subject to section 65, continue to hold office as the Imam, Bilal or Siak of such mosque.
