PART III - REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGES



Section 28. Appointment of Chief Registrar, Senior Registrar, Registrars and Assistant


(1) His Royal Highness the Sultan may appoint any qualified public officer to be the Chief Registrar of Muslim Marriages, Divorces, and Ruju` for the purposes of this Enactment, who shall have general supervision and control over Registrars and the registration of marriages, divorces, and ruju` under this Enactment.

(2) His Royal Highness the Sultan may appoint so many qualified persons as may be necessary, to be Senior Registrars, Registrars, or Assistant Registrars of Muslim Marriages, Divorces, and Ruju` for such kariah masjid in the State of Kedah Darul Aman as may be specified in the appointments.

(3) His Royal Highness the Sultan may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint any member of the diplomatic staff of Malaysia in any country to be the Registrar of Muslim Marriages, Divorces, and Ruju` for the purposes of this Enactment in that country.

(4) Upon the commencement of this section, any person who has been appointed as Chief Registrar, Registrars, or Assistant Registrars immediately before the commencement shall be deemed to have been duly appointed under this section and shall hold the office as such.

(5) Every person appointed under subsection (2) who is not a public officer shall be deemed to be a public officer for the purposes of the Penal Code 1997 [Act 574].
