PART VII - CONVERSION TO ISLAM

Section 106. Registration of conversion to Islam.

(1) A person who has converted to Islam may apply to the Registrar of Muallaf in the prescribed form for the registration of his conversion to Islam.

(2) If the Registrar of Muallaf is satisfied that the requirements of section 100 and section 101 have been fulfilled in respect of the person, the Registrar of Muallaf may register his conversion to Islam by entering in the Register of Muallaf.

(3) If the Registrar of Muallaf is satisfied that a muallaf has been granted custody under section 103 of any child who at the moment of the muallaf's conversion to Islam was below the age of eighteen, the Registrar of Muallaf shall upon application of the said muallaf likewise register the conversion of the child in the Register of Muallaf.

(4) The Registrar of Muallaf shall also determine the date of conversion to Islam and enter that date in the Register of Muallaf.

(5) In order to satisfy himself of the fact and date of conversion to Islam, as to the existence of any child of the applicant, and the age of the child and other particulars, the Registrar of Muallaf may make such inquiries and call for such evidence as he considers important, but this subsection shall not be construed as precluding the Registrar of Muallaf from relying solely on the words of the applicant insofar as it relates to his conversion and date of conversion.

(6) If the Registrar of Muallaf is not satisfied that the requirements of section 101 have been fulfilled in respect of the applicant for conversion to Islam, he may permit the applicant to utter in his presence or in the presence of any of his officers, the two Clauses of the Affirmation of Faith in accordance with the requirements of the said section.
