PART IV. - PROSECUTION AND REPRESENTATION
Section 56. Syariah Enforcement Officers.
(1) The Majlis may appoint from amongst the members ofthe Terengganu State public service a Chief Syariah Enforcement Officer and Syariah Enforcement Officers to carry out the investigation of offences under this Enactment or under any other written law which prescribes offences against the precepts of the religion of Islam.

(1A) Notwithstanding subsection (1), the Majlis may, if necessary, appoint any person to be Syariah Enforcement Officers, to carry out the arrest but suchofficers shall not have the power to investigate offences under this Enactment or under any other written law which prescribes offences against the precepts of the religion of Islam.

(1B) Syariah Enforcement Officer shall act under the general control and direction of Chief Syariah Enforcement Officer and may exercise all or any rights and powers vested in or exercisable by the Chief Syariah Enforcement Officer except rights and powers expressed to be exercisable by Chief Syariah Enforcement Officer personally.

(2) The person who, immediately before the commencement of this section, was holding the post of Chief Syariah Enforcement Officer or Syariah Enforcement Officer under the previous Enactment shall, on the commencement of this section, continue to hold office as the Chief Syariah Enforcement Officer or Syariah Enforcement Officer as he had been appointed under this section.
