PART III - PEGUAM SYARIE
Rule 9. Qualification of a Peguam Syarie.
A person may be admitted to be a Peguam Syarie if he-
(a) (i) is a Muslim and having the qualifications as specified under Section 18 (2) of the Enactment.
(ii) being a Muslim, is a member of the judical and legal service of the Federation; or
(iii) being a Muslim, is appointed under Section 3 of the Legal Aid Bureau Act 1971 [
Act 26
];
(iv) being a Muslim, is an advocate and solicitor enrolled under the Legal Profession Act 1976;
(b) has attained the age of twenty-one years;
(c) is of good behaviour and-
(i) has never been convicted in Malaysia or in any other place of any criminal offence;
(ii) has never been adjudged a bankrupt;
(d) is a Malaysian citizen; and
(e) as an advocate and solicitor, has passed the Sijil Peguam Syarie examination.
