Any person who applies to be a Peguam Syarie shall possess the following qualifications-
(a) (i) a Muslim and has passed the final examinations which leads to a Bachelor's Degree in Syariah from the University of AI-Azhar or any Islamic educational institution recognised by the Government of Malaysia or the State Government; or
(ii) a Muslim advocate and solicitor enrolled under the Legal Profession Act 1976 (Act 166); or
(iii) has served as a Kadi with any State Government in Malaysia for a period of not less than seven years;
(b) has attained the age of twenty-one years;
(c) of good behaviour and-
(i) has never been convicted in Malaysia or in any other place of any criminal offence;
(ii) is not a bankrupt;
(d) a Malaysian citizen or a permanent resident of Malaysia; and
(e) as an advocate and solicitor, has passed the Sijil Peguam Syarie examination.
